While speaking exclusively to Republic TV, Union Minister Anurag Thakur addressed the ongoing farmers' protests, urging demonstrators to refrain from resorting to violence or vandalism. Thakur emphasized the government's willingness to engage in dialogue with farmers but expressed concern over the emergence of new demands on a daily basis, acknowledging the time required for comprehensive discussions.

Thakur criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of spreading misinformation regarding the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and agricultural policies. He refuted Gandhi's claims, asserting that the Modi government has increased MSP by 1.5 times and has significantly boosted agricultural exports and budget allocations for the sector. Thakur defended the NDA government's track record, asserting that it has prioritized the welfare of farmers more effectively than the previous UPA government.

Major clash erupted between Punjab farmers and police personnel at the state border after Punjab farmers made an effort to enter Haryana.  Amid this, the police officials and protesting farmers were injured. 

Amid the farmers protest, Delhi police informed about the traffic diversions. “Singhu Border is not accessible. Traffic Diversion done at Mukarba Chowk. At Mukarba Chowk, vehicles intending to go to Haryana can divert towards Loni Border or towards Madhuban Chowk onwards to Ring Road,” police wrote.

Speaking on demands of protesting farmers, Union Minister Arjun Munda said, “Regarding MSP, we have to see what kind of law they (farmers) are seeking, and what will be the pros and cons. We at the government see things in a positive way, but we can come to a conclusion after considering everyone's interest.”

'If farmers are aggressive, we will not be on the defensive': Delhi Police's announcement at Singhu Border. 

The Delhi Metro regulated passenger entry and exit at nine stations on Tuesday by shutting some gates in view of the farmers' proposed march to the national capital.

The commuters were allowed to enter or exit these stations through other gates.

Official sources said the gates have been shut as part of security arrangements as requested by the Delhi Police.

The stations where one or more gates are closed are: Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Udyog Bhawan, Janpath, Barakhamba Road, Lok Kalyan Marg and Khan Market, a senior official said.

One gate was closed at Khan Market station, the official added.

Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday attacked the Centre alleging that the government is in cahoots with profiteers and it does not want to give MSP to the farmers.

Speaking to reporters in the UP Assembly after three SP candidates filed their nomination papers, Akhilesh Yadav said, "Why is the government, which wants to garner votes in the name of farmers and has given Bharat Ratna to (MS) Swaminathan and farmers' leader Chaudhary Charan Singh, not giving MSP to the farmers?" "Either the government does not want to give MSP or it is in collusion with big people and those who want to make profits. The result is that the government is doing such works to suppress the voice of the farmers," he said.

Referring to the hurling of multiple rounds of teargas shells by the Haryana Police at Shambhu border near Ambala, Yadav said, "Whatever is happening, the way tear gas is being used to stop the farmers; and iron nails, concrete blocks and walls (of containers) are being put, they are being done to stop the movement (of the farmers). They are doing whatever they can through the administration." Yadav also said, "The government in Delhi deliberately wants to suppress the voice of farmers. These are the same people who had told the farmers that their income will double, MSP will be implemented and they will get the price of their crops. But nothing happened." "A few years ago you saw that farmers came and sat on strike. More than 800 farmers lost their lives. But even after that the government is not ready to give MSP to the farmers," he said.

Amid the protest by farmers in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi in a post on social media platform X, promised the protesting farmers of MSP if the Congress party comes into power. 

“Farmer brothers, today is a historic day! Congress has decided to give legal guarantee of MSP to every farmer on crops as per Swaminathan Commission. This step will change the lives of 15 crore farmer families by ensuring their prosperity. This is the first guarantee of Congress on the path of justice,” he wrote.
 

In the latest development in farmers protest, the police has detained the farmers gathered at Ghazipur Border. Farmers are reiterating their demand for legislation that ensures a minimum support price (MSP) for crops, one of the conditions they had set when they agreed to withdraw their agitation against the now-repealed farm laws in 2021. They are also demanding the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations. They also want pensions for farmers, and farm labourers, and farm debt waiver. Farmers also want the Centre to provide ‘justice’ for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.  

As the protest by farmers continue, Tikri border has been sealed. To ensure law and order, Delhi police have already enforced Section 144, restricting entry of tractor trolleys and large assemblies as farmers from 9 states and Puducherry are scheduled to take part in the protest.

Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee General Secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher speaking about the farmers protest stated that they are “maintaining a peaceful situation” and woult stop the protest only when the government agrees to their demands. 

“Around 10,000 people are here at the Shambhu border. The farmers are maintaining a peaceful situation here and tear gas is being used against us through drones. (Protest) will continue until the government agrees to our demands,” he said. 

In the wake of Kisan Andolan, security has been beefed up at the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur border. The protesting farmers now forcibly remove the cement barricade as they try to cross over the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border.  Moreove, tractor driver have put on a gas mask as police use tear gas to disperse protesting farmers at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border.

Preparation of farmers to deal with police at Shambhu border

- Farmers have brought water tankers with them,
- Farmers have extra clothes.
- Farmers are using wet clothes in case the police released tear gas shells.
- Farmers have covered the goods on the tractor trolley with foil so that water does not damage their tractor or the equipment on the tractor.
- Iron chains have been tied on the tractor so that the cement barricade can be removed.

A few metro gates are closed as per security instructions. However, stations are operational-Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Udyog Bhawan, Patel Chowk, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Janpath, Khan Market and Lok Kalyan Marg: DMRC. 

On farmers' 'Delhi chalo' protest, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait says, "MSP guarantee law and Swaminathan Committee report, Electricity amendment bill and debt waiver are the issues of the farmers across the country. There are several farmer unions and they have different issues...If the Govt creates a problem for these farmers who are marching towards Delhi, we are not far from them...We are in support of them..."

Union Minister Arjun Munda says "We care about the interests of the farmers. It is not our concern if someone is doing politics over this issue. We have always been ready for talks and discussions and we are ready to do everything possible to find a solution to this issue. This issue also concerns the state governments. We need time to understand this issue and find a method to solve this..."
