Mumbai Trans Harbour Link: Ahead of the much-awaited inauguration of Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), news agency ANI has shown the first visuals of the country’s longest sea bridge as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected and reviewed it on Saturday morning. 

During his inspection, the Maharashtra Chief Minister inquired about the traffic control on Atal Setu and the condition of the CCTV system etc, Securing the provision of essential facilities and amenities. The MTHL is a 6-lane sea link, with 16.50 kilometres of the stretch on sea and 5.50 km on land. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on Jan 12.

MTHL to inaugurated on Jan 12: 5 Things to Know

  1. With the inauguration of MTHL, the distance between Panvel in Raigad district and Sewri in south-central Mumbai will be reduced by 15 kilometres, while travel time will come down from around two hours to 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. The saving in fuel cost would be around Rs 500 per journey
  3. Earlier this week, the Maharashtra government cleared a proposal to charge Rs 250 as a one-way toll for cars on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL).
  4. A passenger car will be charged Rs 250 one-way toll, while charges for return journeys as well as for daily and frequent travellers will be different
  5. The 21.8 kilometre bridge, officially the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, has been built at a cost of Rs 21,200 crore, of which Rs 15,000 crore is by way of loans.
