Five killed, five injured as autorickshaw-bus collides in Kerala's Malappuram

For now, the Manjeri police have taken the bus driver into custody. The pilgrims who were on the bus were taken to the pilgrimage site in another vehicle.

Malappuram: At least five were killed and five were injured after an autorickshaw on Friday evening collided with a bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims coming from Karnataka, the police said.

As per the officials, the accident took place in Malapurram's Manjeri town at 5:30 pm. The injured have been shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

The deceased including a family of four have been identified as Muhsina, her sister Tasneem and her two kids Rinsha Fatima and Raisa Fatima, and the autorickshaw driver Abdul Majeed, news agency ANI reported.

Sasidharan S, Malapurram District Police Chief on Friday said that a joint investigation will be carried out with the motor vehicle department to see if there are any issues with the road.

"The police will conduct a joint investigation with the motor vehicle department and will check the accident spot properly, see if there are any issues with the road and take steps to make sure such accidents don't happen again," the police chief said.

For now, the Manjeri police have taken the bus driver into custody. The pilgrims who were on the bus were taken to the pilgrimage site in another vehicle.
