Varanasi: A former Mahant of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Dr Kulpati Tiwari died on Wednesday. 70-year-old Tiwari was suffering from a neuro-related illness for several months. When his condition became critical, he was admitted to Oriana Hospital in Varanasi's Ravindrapuri. His last rites were performed at Manikarnika Ghat.

Tiwari was born in Varanasi in 1954. He was made the mahant of Kashi Vishwanath Temple in 1993, after the death of his father Kailashpati Tiwari. Since then he was carrying out the traditions of the temple.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a post on X expressing grief over the demise of Tiwari. Received the sad news of the demise of the former Mahant of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Dr. Kulpati Tiwari. Dr. Kulpati served Baba Vishwanath with devotion for a long time and today he has merged into Baba's feet. His departure to Shivaloka is an irreparable loss for Kashi, said PM Modi.

Chief Priest of Ram Temple Consecration Ceremony Dies

Acharya Laxmikant Dixit, the chief priest who had performed the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, died on 22 June.

Family members said Dixit, 86, was not well for the last few days. His last rites will be conducted at Manikarnika Ghat.Lord Ram's idol was consecrated at the Ayodhya temple on January 22 in an event led by Prime Minister Modi.

Counted among the senior scholars of Varanasi, Dixit was a native of Solapur district of Maharashtra but his family has been living in Varanasi for several generations.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death of Dixit.

In a post on 'X', he said, "The departure of Acharya Shri Laxmikant Dixit, a great scholar of Kashi and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Prana Pratishtha, is an irreparable loss to the spiritual and literary world." "He will always be remembered for his service to Sanskrit language and Indian culture," Adityanath said.
