Bengaluru airport bags prize for world’s best interior, PM Modi congratulates Bengalurians

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport Terminal-2 bagged UNESCO’s Prix Versailles ‘World Special prize for an Interior 2023’ in the airports category.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed his pleasure after Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport Terminal-2 bagged UNESCO’s Prix Versailles ‘World Special prize for an Interior 2023’ in the airports category. He congratulated the people of Bengaluru and called the achievement a commendable feat.

The prime minister also shared images of the captivating pictures from the Terminal building’s inauguration last year.

PM Modi on Saturday took to X, to share his pleasure saying, “A commendable feat! Congratulations to the people of Bengaluru.”

“Terminal 2 of the Kempegowda International Airport is not just a gateway to the vibrant city of Bengaluru but also a showcase of architectural brilliance. This accomplishment reflects the country's growing prowess in combining world-class infrastructure with artistic beauty,” the PM wrote.

Notably, Kempegowda International Airport, Terminal 2 on Thursday won the World Special prize for an Interior 2023 in the airports category. National Geographic on December 21 aired a special documentary about the making of the terminal building.

The Bengaluru airport’s Terminal 2 building, which was inaugurated on November 11, 2022 is also referred to as ‘Terminal in a Garden’ for its contemporary designed indoor garden. The terminal is built to serve around 25 million passengers annually and it is slated to be expanded in its next phase.

The interior structure of the terminal is crafted with engineered bamboo and waterfalls along with hanging plants as its standout feature. Additionally, the design also reflects the notion of the local heritage.
