Delhi Police deploy 10,000 personnel to take command of security ahead of New Year eve

A police official said, over 2,500 traffic police personnel have been deployed to check any traffic violations and to ensure smooth traffic movement in Delhi.

The Delhi Police are all geared up to tackle any unsocial activities, violations of traffic and to maintain peace in the national capital during the New Year’s celebration. Police sources said that over 10,000 police personnel have been deployed on the ground to maintain law and order in the city.

Apart from this, over 2,500 traffic police personnel have been deployed to check any traffic violations and to ensure smooth movement of traffic on the intervening night of December 31st and January 1.

No one will be allowed to flout traffic rules, say Delhi Police

A senior police official of the Delhi Traffic Police said that barricades have been set at various locations across Delhi, where traffic police are keeping a close watch on traffic violators. Not only this, drunk driving, stunts by bike riders and loud exhaust sounds by any vehicle will be strictly checked in Delhi and no one will be allowed to flout the traffic rules during the celebration.

The police official also added that as many as 250 teams of the Delhi Traffic Police have been deployed to curb drink and drive. Traffic violators will also be monitored through CCTV cameras installed on the Delhi roads.

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SS Yadav said that around 450 motorcycles will also be positioned at different places. In addition to it, adequate police personnel will be deployed in areas where high footfall is expected.

The Delhi Police are also vigil on the border areas. Police sources said that multiple layers of barricades have been put up on Delhi's border areas near Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and police teams have been deployed.

Apart from this, a few traffic restrictions have also been implemented in the national capital to curb any congestion and to maintain smooth traffic movement in the New Delhi area. The vehicles movement going towards Connaught Place will be regulated after 8 pm on Sunday.

In order to ease overcrowding in the Connaught Place area, Delhi Metro has prohibited the exit of commuters from the Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm on New Year's Eve. However, entry of passengers into the station will be allowed.

Apart from Rajiv Chowk metro station, services on the rest of the metro network will remain available as per the regular timetable, said an official of the Delhi Metro.
