Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained its former Deputy Superintendent among 40 others in connection with the case linked to extending help to Rohingyas for their settlement in Jammu region. IG Jammu Zone Police Anand Jain has also confirmed detention of close to 40 people in the raids carried out across Jammu region .

Senior official of Jammu Police told Republic World that one retired Deputy Superintendent of Jammu Kashmir Police has been detained for settlement of Rohingyas. "The retired DySP in Jammu has given his land to Rohingyas to settle and that was why he was detained by Jammu Police in raids yesterday afternoon; though he has been released on 'Surety Bond' after ensuring full cooperation in the case," he added.

In one of the dozen FIRs lodged, J&K Police has booked the Rohingyas and their supporters by name and case has been registered under section 420, 120-B, 467, 468, 471 of IPC and 14 (C) of Foreigners Act 1946. All the FIRs have been lodged on suo-moto cognisance by Jammu Police. "The instance case is special in nature, which is first case of specific area and 09th of its nature," added FIR Copy accessed by Republic World.

Jammu Police Chief Anand Jain has said that Police will also be looking into terror links of the Rohingyas who have been arrested and detained during the raids yesterday. Illegal acquired Aadhar cards, bank documents, revenue records and other documents have been seized by Jammu Zone Police in raids over 50 locations yesterday and over 18 Rohingyas along with their supporters have been arrested by Jammu Zone Police from Kishtwar, Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu.

Jammu Police in its statement said that thorough investigations and intelligence reports have confirmed that some locals have been involved in facilitating the illegal settlement of Rohingyas, posing potential threats to the security and socio-economic fabric of the UT of J&K. "The presence of undocumented and unauthorized individuals not only poses security challenges but also has the potential to strain local resources. Police in Jammu region have acted against the Facilitators providing shelter to Rohingyas in the Jammu, Kishtwar, Doda, Poonch and Rajouri districts," statement added.
