Indore: In a tragic incident, two children died and 12 have fallen ill in the past two days at a shelter home in Madhya Pradesh's Indore, said officials.
Both residents of Bal Ashram of Yugupursuh Dham, identified as Karan, 12 and Akash, 7, passed away on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, confirmed the Additional Deputy Commissioner Of Police (ADP) Alok Kumar Sharma.
The officials said that the exact cause of the deaths will be confirmed after the results of the post-mortem.
He added that the shelter accommodates over 200 children, including orphans and those with mental ailments. Twelve children have been diagnosed with nausea and diarrhoea, and they have been admitted to the government-run Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH).
Two children of the facility are in serious condition due to severe dehydration. Additionally, Dr Ashok Yadav the hospital’s superintendent said that all children suffering are below the age of 14. The hospital was visited by Ashish Singh , an Indore collector to enquire about the children's health.
According to doctors, it appears to be a case of food poisoning. A team led by the additional district magistrate, including doctors and food department officials, has been dispatched to the Bal Ashram for further probe.
The reason for the death is yet to be ascertained as the officials wait for the reports of a detailed inquiry.
