Noida: On January 3, Noida reported its second active COVID-19 case, adding to the district's count of 8 cases in Gauttambuddh Nagar. Among these, 4 cases remain active and under quarantine. The latest patient, a 27-year-old male employed at a multinational company in Noida, tested positive this morning after developing COVID symptoms for the past week. He is currently under home quarantine. The district's surveillance officer has ensured all essential medications for home isolation.

Dr. Sunil Sharma, the Chief Medical Officer of Gauttambuddh Nagar, shared insights with Republic, stating, "We received the patient's sample details this morning. The patient conducted an RTPCR test at home. Having recently returned from Goa after New Year celebrations, where COVID cases are high, the patient failed to adhere to COVID-appropriate behaviour, exposing himself to large gatherings. On his return, he displayed symptoms like cold, cough, joint pain, and a runny nose."

He further said, "Upon the RTPCR test confirming his positive status, the information was relayed to the CMO office. The patient's sample has been sent to Delhi for genome sequencing, and we've recommended suitable medications and steroids. Our district nodal officer's team will monitor the patient's condition daily. It's crucial for the patient follow porper quarantine rules and avoid contact with family members."

Highlighting the broader situation, Dr. Sharma added, "Of the 8 COVID cases in Gauttambuddh Nagar, samples from all patients have been sent for genome sequencing. We've advised ramping up regular COVID testing in CHCs and primary healthcare centers. Many individuals displaying COVID symptoms are not undergoing RTPCR tests. Hence, we've deployed teams to raise awareness via loudspeaker-equipped vans across Noida. Awareness about the new variant's spread is paramount at this juncture."
