Heroic Rescue: Elephant Calf Saved from 30-Foot Well in Nilgiris After 10-Hour Operation

In Nilgiris, an elephant calf that fell into a 30-foot well was rescued by a team of Forest department officials on Wednesday. The rescue operation, which took ten hours, involved the use of two excavators to pull the animal to safety. The calf was safe down there in the well as there was not much water left inside the well. 

According to officials, the incident happened in the early hours at Kolapalli near Gudalur when the calf, part of an elephant herd, accidentally fell into the well.

ANI shared the video with a caption that reads, " Tamil Nadu: A wild elephant fell into a 30-foot-deep pit in the Kolapalli area in the Nilgiris district, last night.

The elephant was rescued after around 11 hours by the forest department of Kolapalli."

The rescue operation:

Locals promptly informed the Forest department, which launched a rescue operation. To help the calf climb out, two excavators were deployed to create a path near the well. The calf was safely taken out from the well and after being rescued, the calf ventured back into the forest. Forest department officials are closely monitoring the calf to ensure it safely rejoins its herd.
