Kolkata: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee 's government is attempting to remove Hindu and Hindi-speaking voters from the electoral rolls under the guise of eliminating fake voters.

Making a statement in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Hindu voters' names are being removed from the voter list in West Bengal. The BJP leader urged the Election Commission of India to remove the BDO of Krishnanagar.

Adhikari further alleged that Bengal government officials are in a tacit collusion with the TMC and were engaging in these activities.

In another remark, Suvendu Adhikari claimed that Hindu voters are being called and asked to prove that they are not Bangladeshis. Those submitting Form 7 are reportedly being forced to furnish proof.

Suvendu informed that the BJP will hold peaceful protests in two regions, including Banda and Krishnanagar, where most of these complaints have surfaced.

TMC questions Suvendu’s claim

TMC leader Jaiprakash Majumdar dismissed the claims made by Suvendu Adhikari and accused the BJP of bringing voters from Haryana and other states into West Bengal to add them to the voter list. He stated that this scam has now been exposed.

TMC Government launches voter verification drive

The controversy erupted after the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal launched a voter verification drive, accusing the BJP of bringing outsiders into the state and adding them to the electoral rolls with the alleged backing of the Election Commission.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of employing similar tactics in Haryana, Maharashtra , and Delhi Assembly elections.

Duplicate numbers don't mean fake voters

The Election Commission has clarified that duplicate numbers do not necessarily indicate fake voters. While the Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers of some voters may be identical, other details, including demographic information, assembly constituency, and polling booth, are different.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Chief Electoral Office (CEO) assured that the voter list updation process is being conducted transparently with the involvement of Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Earlier today, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya claimed that a nervous Mamata Banerjee was instructing police to assault LoP Suvendu Adhikari who visited the landslide-affected area in the Bhagar region of Belgachia, Howrah, for relief work.

Suvendu, however, remained undeterred and met with the affected local residents and assured them of the BJP’s support.
