IMD Issues Orange Alert for Rainfall in Assam, Heatwave Warning for These 12 States

IMD predicted heatwave conditions will continue to prevail in North, North-East and Central India on June 13.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heatwave conditions will continue to prevail in North, North-East and Central India on June 13. 

The states which will reel under heatwave are Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, according to the Met department. 

The weather bureau said that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely over Uttar Pradesh till June 16; and over West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand till June 14.


Orange Alert In Assam, Meghalaya

The IMD issued an orange alert for rainfall in the northeastern states of Assam and Meghalaya. The isolated pockets of both states are likely to receive heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall 115.5-204.4 mm) on June 14 and 16 and heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) with extremely heavy falls (>204.4 mm) on June 15, 2024.

It further predicted thunderstorms for the north-eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Sikkim until June 19. Besides this, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, is also expected in these states.

Chances of heavy rainfall are high in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next three days over. For West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall until June 17
