IMD Predicts Relief From Heatwave Between June 23-25
IMD on Saturday predicted that heavy to extremly heavy rainfall will cover Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa over the next 4-5 days.
Heatwave in India: With the prolonged heatwave sweeping many parts of the country , the Indian Meterological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted that heavy to extremly heavy rainfall will cover Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa over the next 4-5 days. So far heatwave claimed over 143 lives and 41, 789 people are suffering from suspected heatstroke.
The IMD has also predicted favourable conditions for the advance of the monsoons across India.
Here are the latest updates on the weather across the country:
- Rain has brought relief from searing temperatures in Delhi and other northwestern states. The National Disaster Response Force has been deployed in nine districts of Kerala due to heavy rainfall.
- In Palghar, Maharashtra, a bridge has submerged due to rains, while Thane has seen increased incidents of tree falls, resulting in six children being injured.
- Kerala has seen early rain this season, with 11 reported deaths due to rain-related accidents in the past month.
- The IMD has issued a red alert for coastal and south interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, and Goa. An orange alert is in effect for Maharashtra, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Rainfall is also expected in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.
- Strong gusts of wind from the Bay of Bengal are expected in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar (IMD).
- The Northwest India heatwave is easing, with Uttar Pradesh still experiencing high temperatures, reaching 44.6 degrees Celsius in Orai (IMD).
- Areas in Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Gujarat, and Rajasthan are still hot, with temperatures ranging from 40-42 degrees Celsius. Heatwave conditions are expected to subside between June 23-25, despite recent thunderstorms in Delhi reducing temperatures to 40.4 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung.
- Noida has received 75 bodies for autopsy from June 18-20, with ongoing investigations into possible heatwave-related deaths.
- Union Minister JP Nadda reported 114 heatwave-related deaths and 41,984 heatstroke cases nationwide.
