Independence Day 2019: PM Modi says 'Citizen who was satisfied with railway earlier now asks for airport', on infra aspirations

PM Modi during his address from the Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day elaborating on the infrastructural development noted in changing times, people are not merely satisfied with a railway station but ask for better infrastructure. 

In his speech, PM Modi highlighted the change as to how in the earlier times a railway station was sufficient for people, but now they expect better rails and an airport. 

He said, "Even the minds of common people have changed. There was a time when even if it was announced in the paper that a railway station is being constructed, for months and years there would be an affirmation, that a new railway station is coming up. Today the times have changed, the common man is not satisfied with a railway station. They immediately ask, 'when is Vande Mataram Express coming in our area?' Their thought has changed. If we make a 5-star railway station, they don't praise you for your work, they ask, now when will you construct an airport."

"This means their thought has changed. The citizen who was satisfied with a railway station, now asks, it's good that we got a railway station, but when would we get an airport?  In the past, they used to ask when would we get a pukka road, now they ask will we get a road of 4 lanes or 6 lanes," he added. 

Moreover, PM Modi announced that Rs. 100 lakh crore will be invested in infrastructure. 

He said, "I always ask this question..can we not reduce the interference of Governments in people's lives? Let our people have the freedom to follow their own aspirations. We have abolished a lot of laws. Today according to the needs of the 21st century, modern infrastructure is being set up. We have decided to invest Rs 100 lakh crore on the country's infrastructure."

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence informed that three women IAF officers to assist PM Modi during the Independence Day ceremony. Furthermore, Flying Officer Preetam Sangwan will assist the Prime Minister in the unfurling of the national flag, while Flt Lt Jyoti Yadav & Flt Lt Mansi Geda will be positioned on either side of the saluting dais for the Prime Minister.
