Saran: A controversial social media post by an assistant professor at Jai Prakash University, Chapra has invited the wrath of the internet after he said, “Indian Muslims want a separate homeland adjoining Pakistan and Bangladesh”.

The social media posts triggered protests by the students and pushed the university administration to serve the show cause notice. The incident has led the professor to resign from his post.

Khursheed Alam, the chairman of the political science department of JP University-affiliated Narayan College in Siwan, caused a hue and cry a few days ago when he made two remarks on social media.

In one of his posts, he wrote “United Pakistan and Bangladesh #Zindabad” while in another, he said, “…the Indian Muslims want a separate homeland adjoining Pakistan and Bangladesh.”

The University administration served him with a show-cause notice after his posts sparked demonstrations, requesting an explanation as to why he shouldn't face disciplinary action for engaging in “anti-national activities.”

On Saturday, irate students demonstrated on the college campus, burning his effigy as a symbol of their outrage and demanding action against him.

They also said they would not return to courses until he was removed from the college. By voicing such ideas in public, he has offended everyone's sensitivities and is attempting to sabotage social harmony, Himanshu Kumar, an ABVP working committee member, informed the media on Saturday. He was a student who participated in the demonstrations.

The professor has since apologized after receiving widespread criticism for his writings after they went viral. "With my message, I have never attempted to offend anyone or had any malicious intent. I sincerely sorry if I offended anyone," the professor wrote on social media recently.
