The last assembly elections in 2014 were conducted in five phases between November 25 and December 20, resulting in the election of 87 members to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The results were announced on December 23, 2014.
The previous elections in 2008 were held over seven days following the collapse of the PDP-INC coalition government. Omar Abdullah of the National Conference became the youngest Chief Minister at 38, leading a coalition with Congress after the elections.
