Jammu & Kashmir: 4 Killed, 2 Injured as Landslide Hits House at Chassana Area of Reasi

Officials said that four persons, including three minors, have been killed in the incident.

Jammu: Four persons belonging to the same family, including three minors, were killed as a landslide hit a house in Chassana area of Reasi district late last night. Two persons were injured in the incident and are being treated at nearby medical facility.

Officials said that four persons, including three minors, have been killed in the incident. The four killed in the landslide have been identified as Phalla Akther, aged 30 years, Nasima Akhter, aged 5 years, Safeen Kousar, aged 3 years and Samreen Kousar, aged 2 months. The two injured have been identified as Kalu, aged 60 years and Bano Begum, aged 58 years. They have been sent for medical treatment.

On Saturday, Reasi Police, in its advisory, asked locals to stay inside their houses and stay away from water bodies due to inclement weather conditions due to heavy rain and snowfall in the district.

Over 200 houses damaged in Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda

Officials have informed that around 160 houses have been damaged due to heavy rainfall in last 24 hours in Ramban district of Jammu. The houses have been damaged in Khari, Banihal, Gool and Batote area and teams of revenue officials have been formed to access the loss and take immediate steps to provide relief to people.

10 houses suffered damages in Gandoh tehsil in Doda district while in nearby Kishtwar district, 15 houses and other structures were affected by a powerful windstorm in areas such as Trigam, Palmar, and Mughal Maidan. According to officials, the impact of the windstorm in Kishtwar resulted in damages to at least 15 structures, including one fully destroyed house, five severely damaged kutcha houses, and a cattleshed. Two commercial establishments in Tehsil Kishtwar were also reported to have suffered damage.

Valley disconnected for second day amid heavy rains

Jammu Srinagar National Highway has been blocked for second consecutive day as landslides hit multiple portions in Ramban district of Jammu. Over 1500 vehicles are stranded as Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Batote-Doda-Kishtwar road remained blocked due to massive landslides at several places since last night. The road connecting Jammu to Poonch has also been blocked at Surankot due to continuous landslides in the area overnight.
