Maharashtra: Twenty-six-year-old Thane resident Priya Singh spoke to Republic exclusively from her hospital bed and shared how she suffered, as her boyfriend, who is rich and powerful, kept cheating on her. Priya was allegedly crushed by an SUV by him in Thane.

While talking to Republic, Priya narrated the incident, fervently demanding action from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over the incident. Insisting on adding IPC 307 in her first information report (FIR), she detailed how Ashwajit Gaikwad had kept her in the dark, concealing his marriage. Upon discovering his marital status, he offered feeble excuses, Priya added. She asserted that he intentionally tried crush her under his car. 

Priya further accused Ashwajit Gaikwad of employing pressure tactics to suppress the case.

The woman described how an argument led to her boyfriend allegedly beating her, attempting to strangle her, and then ordering his driver to mow her down. The incident occurred early Monday morning near a hotel in Thane. 

The police have charged Ashwajit Gaikwad, the son of Anil Gaikwad, the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

Priya claims she received a call at 4 am from Ashwajit, with whom she has been in a relationship for nearly five years, asking her to join him at a family function. The two had an argument post which things took an ugly turn.
