Kolkata: Heavy rains in West Bengal's Kalimpong district on Friday damaged a portion of National Highway 10 (NH10), leading to the disruption of traffic on the principal highway that connects Sikkim with the rest of the country.

The highway, considered the lifeline of Sikkim, had just reopened for light vehicles on Wednesday after being closed for a long period. However, fresh landslides triggered by heavy rains on Thursday afternoon at 28 Mile, 29 Mile, Rabi Jhora, and Melli in the Kalimpong district forced the highway to shut down once again. Some vehicles were reported to be damaged due to the landslides.

The closure of NH10 due to these fresh slides has caused significant disruption, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by severe weather in the region.
