Bengaluru: Karnataka is set to witness a statewide bandh on March 22, as pro-Kannada organizations called for a 12-hour shutdown from 6 AM to 6 PM. The bandh is expected to impact public transport, business operations, and daily activities across the state.
The protest has been triggered by multiple issues, including the alleged assault on a KSRTC bus conductor by pro-Marathi groups in Belagavi, the Greater Bengaluru Governance (GBG) Bill, and concerns over Kannadigas not getting sufficient employment opportunities in key industries.
Protesters claim that Kannadigas are not getting enough employment opportunities in major industries, especially in the IT and service sectors.
Yes, the Karnataka Bandh is expected to disrupt normal life in Bengaluru. While no official shutdown orders have been issued, several transport unions, business groups, and pro-Kannada organizations have extended their support, which could lead to major disruptions.
Public Transport: BMTC and KSRTC bus services may be affected, although there is no official confirmation yet.
Cabs and Autos: Private cab aggregators and auto-rickshaw unions are likely to participate in the bandh, affecting local travel.
Several markets and business hubs, including Chickpet, KR Market, and Gandhi Bazaar, are expected to remain closed.
Malls, shopping complexes, and local stores in various parts of Bengaluru may also shut down for the day.
Offices will remain open, but attendance may be low due to transport challenges.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents during the bandh. Meanwhile, protests and demonstrations are expected in multiple parts of the state.
Further updates on transport and public services will be announced based on the evolving situation.
