Belagavi: The long-standing dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka over Belagavi flared up again after a bus conductor was allegedly attacked following an argument with two students about speaking Kannada instead of Marathi.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon in a village in Belagavi. On Saturday, the situation escalated into a border issue, leading to a suspension of bus services between the two states. Karnataka stopped its bus services to Maharashtra from Belagavi, only running buses up to the Koganolli checkpoint at the border.

In response, Maharashtra also stopped its buses to Karnataka, limiting its services to Kagal taluk, the border area.

Pocso Case Filed Against Bus Conductor

The situation took a serious turn when the college student, who is a minor, filed a counter-complaint against the conductor, accusing him of sexual harassment. As a result, Hukkeri was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The arrest of the student and several others involved in the assault followed soon after, with three men and the minor being taken into custody.
