Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conducted a key meeting on Monday to review the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 situation in the state and directed the health department officials to intesify testing. 

During the meeting, Siddaramaiah stressed the importance of ensuring an ample supply of essential medical resources, such as oxygen, medicine, beds, and ventilators. He clarified that covid situation is under control in the state and sub-variant JN.1 is not considered dangerous. 

The state logged 92 fresh coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the active tally to 436, the health ministry data showed. The state has confirmed 34 active cases of JN.1, with 20 infections in Bengaluru. 

The Chief Minister highlighted an escalation in Covid testing in Karnataka, with a daily capacity reaching up to 5,000 tests, including 1,000 tests specifically in Bengaluru. 

Additionally, he revealed plans to establish a Cabinet Sub-Committee to work in tandem with the Advisory Committee, ensuring continuous monitoring of the Covid situation in the state.

Siddaramaiah further emphasised the need to increase testing in border districts. Despite surge in Covid cases, the Chief Minister urged the public not to panic but to exercise caution.

During the Covid situation review meeting, CM asked authorities to ensure that individuals above 60 years are using masks both indoors and outdoors. While masks are not currently mandatory for those below 60, the CM advised the public to wear masks outdoors.

Siddaramaiah provided assurance that dedicated hospitals in all districts would be adequately equipped with essential facilities such as oxygen, beds, ventilators, and other necessary resources.
