Kolkata Rape and Murder LIVE Updates: Tensions continue to prevail in West Bengal ahead of the massive protest march, 'Nabanna Abhijan,' or march to 'Nabanna' (state secretariat) on Tuesday, August 27, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the alleged rape of 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Following this, the authorities have heightened the security arrangements with over 4,000 personnel set to form barricades at different locations across the state, as per reports.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court appointed the National Task Force is all set to convene its first meeting today, PTI reported citing official sources. As per the report, the NTF meeting is expected to be attended by all the members, where they will recommend ensuring the safety and security of medical professionals at their workplaces.

BJP leader Amit Malviya slammed CM Mamata Banerjee over lathi-charge on protesters following the 'Nabanna Abhijan' march. He said, "Mamata Banerjee, the tinpot dictator, is so scared of students’ movement, that she has ordered Kolkata Police to put large containers on the road, to stop protesting citizens from reaching Nabanno."
Speaking on the 'Nabanna Abhiyaan' rally, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose said, "In the context of the peaceful protest announced by the student community of West Bengal tomorrow and the reported suppression of the protest by certain instructions from the government, I would urge upon the government to remember the strong pronouncement of the Supreme Court of India. Let not the power of the state of West Bengal be unleashed on peaceful protesters. Democracy can have a silent majority, not a silenced majority. Remember that."

Speaking on student protest, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said, "What right does the police have to call it legal or illegal? In a democratic country, anyone can protest. The Supreme Court has also said that if a peaceful protest or march is taken out the police cannot hinder it..."
Furthermore, when speaking on TMC leader Kunal Ghosh's statement, Dilip said, "What difference does it make as to what Kunal Ghosh has to say? What did their government do against the incident that happened?..."
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in a tweet posted on August 27 claimed that four student activists are missing. He further shared the details of the individuals.

Ahead of the planned protests, the West Bengal police issued advisories for the UGC NET exam. The post reads, “Tuesday, August 27, is the day when several candidates are scheduled to take the UGC-NET exam from 9.30 am-12.30 pm and again from 3.00-6.00 pm. An organisation calling itself 'Paschimbanga Chhatro Samaj' has called for a 'Nabanna Abhiyan' on the same day. We have ensured adequate police presence on the roads so that no UGC-NET candidate has difficulty reaching their examination centre. In case of any emergency, candidates are requested to seek help from the nearest police personnel, or contact the nearest police station.”
