Manan Wani Killing: IG of Kashmir SP Pani confirms identity of both terrorists, says 'no collateral damage has been caused'

Inspector General (IG) of Kashmir, SP Pani has responded to the killing of two terrorists in Kashmir on Thursday, confirming that ‘no collateral damage was caused during firing’.

With two terrorists, including top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Manan Wani neutralized in a gunfight encounter with the security forces in Handwara area of North Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara on October 11, Inspector General (IG) of Kashmir, SP Pani has finally responded to the matter. In his statement, IG SP Pani has confirmed the identity of the two terrorists who were killed in the joint operation of the Indian Armed Forces, CRPF and Jammu & Kashmir police.

“In Handwara encounter today, two terrorists were killed, they have been identified as Manan Bashir Wani and Ashiq Hussain, both were associated with Hizbul Mujahideen,” SP Pani stated while addressing the media.

Further, when he was asked about the details of the operation, he said:

"It was a very well planned operation. We searched the houses, after which firing took place. Civilians were evacuated beforehand. There were repeated attempts asking the terrorists to lay down their arms. This operation ended up in a fierce encounter of the terrorists in which two of them have been taken down. Arms and ammunition that were in their possession have been recovered by our forces. Police have been handed over both the bodies. A case has been registered and the investigation is under process for further information,” he added.

IG of Kashmir went onto give more insights about the operation confirming that ‘no collateral damage was caused during firing’.

“The security forces took all precautions to keep it a clean operation,” SP Pani explained.

 When he asked about the educational qualifications of Manan Wani, one of the terrorists who has been killed by the Indian forces, he said:

"As far as the part of the education of Manan Wani is concerned, Hizbul Mujahideen has been very active in recruitment and other terrorist activities. So the team took care of the operation very well. The operation is over,” IG SP Pani concluded.

On Thursday, former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Kavinder Gupta also responded to the killing of the two terrorists in the Valley, congratulating the Indian forces for the successful operation.
