Patna: Overcoming societal barriers, a resident hailing from Bihar’s Bhagalpur, Manvi Madhu Kashyap has become the first transwoman Sub Inspector of the country after being appointed in Bihar Police.
A total of Bihar Police has recently appointed three transgenders including two transmen and one transwoman. A feat which is no small by any means has brought happiness to the family of Manvi Madhu Kashyap.
On the occasion, Kashyap thanked Supreme Court and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the appointment.
Reflecting on her journey, Kashyap said, “The struggle began when I decided to become an Inspector. Our society has been set in such a way that everything has been taken up by males and females. Where are Transgenders these days? Transgenders have to struggle a lot. I thank the Supreme Court and Bihar Chief Minister for this moment.”
Don’t Kick-out Transgender Children from Homes
Manvi Madhu Kashyap also urged the parents to not kick out their children who are identified as Transgenders.
“Transgender youth are very capable. If their parents kick them out of their homes then where will they go? They will end up begging on streets. Give them opportunities and place faith in them,” Kashyap said.
In 2014, the Supreme Court in verdict in the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) case had directed the Centre and the State governments to “take steps to treat transgender persons as socially and educationally backward classes of citizens and extend all kinds of reservation in cases of admission in educational institutions and for public appointments”.
