Guwahati: Massive students protests have erupted in Guwahati after a 21-year-old student was found dead in the hostel room of IIT Guwahati; the body of the student has been sent for postmortem and an official statement has also been issued by the institution. The protesting students are holding the college authorities responsible.

Massive student protests have been triggered in IIT Guwahati after a 21-year-old student was found dead in his hostel room. In the past one year, four such cases have been reported; the student's death sparked massive student protests on the campus.

Student Protestors Hold Authorities Responsible

The students protesting at IIT Guwahati are holding the authorities responsible and are questioning the mental health and welfare support systems of the prestigious institution.

The student who has passed away, belonged to Uttar Pradesh; his body has now been sent for postmortem.

IIT Guwahati Issues Statement

On the unfortunate death of one of its student, IIT -G has responded saying, “IITG is deeply saddened to report the loss of a student from our community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the student's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We encourage our student community to reach out to our support networks. IITG reaffirms its commitment to fostering a supportive and safe environment for all students. IITG remains dedicated to prioritising the mental health and well-being of our student community during these challenging times”

Student Found Dead in IIT Guwahati Hostel, 4th This Year

A third-year Computer Science student at the Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) was found dead in his hostel room in Guwahati on Monday, police said. The body of the male student, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was found in his room in the Brahmaputra Hostel. This is the fourth death of a student in IIT -G this year. Earlier on August 9, a female student was allegedly found hanging in her room.
