Meerut Woman Gang-Raped by Instagram Friend, His Aide on Pretext of Job

Shamli: Befriending a stranger on a social media platform proved costly for a Meerut woman who was gang-raped by him and his associate at a hotel in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. The woman had met the accused, who claimed to be a bank staff, on Instagram.

According to sources, the woman, who was seeking a job, was raped after she was made to consume a cold drink that was spiked. Sources revealed that the accused had offered the woman a job at a bank for which he asked her to meet him in Dehradun.

Instead of coming himself, the accused allegedly sent his friend to take the victim to Dehradun on the promise of a job. As per their plan, the accused’s aide took the woman to Thana Bhawan in Shamli district instead of Dehradun, where she met the accused.

The woman alleged that the men gave her a cold drink laced with sedatives and then took her to a hotel where she was gang-raped.

Police have registered a case in this regard on the basis of the victim's complaint. 

An investigation into the matter is underway.
