Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, who declared family assets exceeding Rs 5,700 crore, emerged as the wealthiest candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

New Delhi: Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and K Ram Mohan Naidu, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Lok Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh, have been inducted into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Union Cabinet. Naidu, a seasoned politician with three terms in the Lok Sabha, joined the Cabinet alongside Pemmasani, who, despite being a first-time MP, is considered the richest member. According to a post on 'X' by former TDP MP Galla Jayadev, Naidu, Srikakula Lok Sabha member will get a Cabinet minister post, while Pemmasani, Guntur MP, would get a minister of state berth. "Congratulations to my young friend @RamMNK on being confirmed as a cabinet minister in the new #NDA Government! Your sincerity and humble nature will surely be an asset to the development of the country. Wishing you all the best in your new role!," Jaydev said in the post.

Who is Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani

  • Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, a 48-year-old doctor, made his political debut in the 2024 Lok Sabha election and has joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 3.0 cabinet. 
  • Pemmasani, who declared family assets exceeding Rs 5,700 crore, emerged as the wealthiest candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. 
  • He secured a decisive victory in the Guntur constituency, representing the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), with 344,695 votes, succeeding Galla Jayadev, who retired from politics in January 2024.
  • Pemmasani's journey began with his ambition to become a doctor, achieving the 27th rank in the EAMCET exam for the 1993-94 academic year, which led him to Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad.
  •  He later completed his MD in internal medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania, USA.
  • In addition to his medical career, Pemmasani is recognized for founding UWorld, a leading global platform for online learning tools tailored for high-stakes exams. The platform adapts to the new digital exam formats and is accessible on smartphones, tablets, and desktops.

TDP's Support Crucial For NDA

The TDP's inclusion of Pemmasani and K Ram Mohan Naidu, a three-time Lok Sabha member, in Modi's cabinet comes as the party holds 16 seats in the Lok Sabha. The TDP's support is crucial for the BJP-led NDA government, as the NDA alliance of TDP, BJP, and Janasena secured 21 out of 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh.
