New Delhi: Following the tragic death of 26-year-old Ernst & Young (EY) consultant Anna Sebastian, allegedly due to extreme work-related stress, a former Deloitte employee has come forward to share his own troubling experiences with corporate work culture in India. Jayesh Jain, from Indore, spoke out on social media, stating that he could "completely relate to what Anna went through" during her time at EY.

Jain posted a series of screenshots on X (formerly Twitter), illustrating how excessive workloads affected both his mental health and professional life. "With the EY case getting attention, I want to share my experience at Deloitte," he wrote. The screenshots, timestamped as early as 5 AM, reveal long, grueling workdays, with employees pulling 20-hour shifts but only allowed to log 15 hours officially.

In the screenshot posted on Twitter, the message reads, ‘Mujhse se nahi ho raha,’ showing how corporate employees are being forced to work extra hours without considering their physical and mental health conditions.”

In one message, Jain’s colleague is seen expressing their exhaustion, saying, "Bahot ho gaya" (That's enough), while another message shows concern over health issues like dizziness due to overwork, where he says “ Chakkar aarha hai”. Jain concluded his post by urging others to prioritize their well-being, reminding them that they are much more than just an "employee number" to their families.

He wrote, “I can totally understand what Anna would have gone through. Always remember you are just an employee number for them. But for your family you are everything. Corporate life is tough. Glad that I was able to get out from there in time.”

The conversation has sparked widespread criticism of toxic corporate environments, with social media users discussing the lack of employee protection laws in India compared to other countries. Amid this growing outrage, the Union Labour Ministry has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sebastian’s death. Minister of State for Labour, Shobha Karandlaje, confirmed that officials are examining allegations of unsafe working conditions at EY.

Anna Sebastian's mother, Anita Augustine, has also called for reforms, urging the company to address a culture that celebrates overwork while neglecting employee well-being.
