Mumbai Police Issue Traffic Advisory for Ganesh Visarjan: Check Key Road Closures and Diversions

Mumbai: As Mumbai prepares for the grand finale of the Ganpati festival with Ganesh Visarjan on Tuesday, the city police have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure smooth movement across the city. The immersion of Ganesh idols on Anant Chaturdashi, concluding the 10-day celebration that began on September 7, is expected to draw large crowds. To manage the anticipated congestion and accommodate the grand processions, significant traffic diversions and road closures will be in effect throughout Mumbai.

Traffic Diversions and Road Closures

Coastal Road:

  • Open 24 Hours: The Coastal Road will be accessible around the clock until September 18, facilitating smooth travel between North and South Mumbai.

Unrestricted Roads:

  • Eastern Freeway
  • P D’Mello Road
  • CSMT Junction
  • Princess Street

South Mumbai Road Closures:

  • Colaba: Nathalal Parekh Marg, Captain Prakash Pethe Marg, and Rambhau Salgaonkar Marg will be closed.
  • Outside CSMT: Mahapalika Marg will be closed.
  • Kalbadevi Area: Traffic restrictions will be in place on JSS Road, Vitthalbhai Patel Road, Baba Saheb Jaykar Road, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, Caswasji Patel Tank Road, Sant Sena Marg, Nanubhai Desai Road, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road.

Suburban Traffic Restrictions

Dadar:

  • Hind Mata Junction
  • Bharat Mata Junction
  • Parel TT Junction
  • Ranjit Bidhakar Chowk
  • Swatantraveer Savarkar Marg (around Siddhivinayak Temple) will be closed.

Worli:

  • Dr Annie Besant Road at Worli Naka will be closed during the Lalbaugcha Raja procession.

Kandivali:

  • Damu Anna Date Marg will have restrictions due to immersions at Dahanukar Wadi Immersion Pool.

Borivali:

  • LT Road near Don Bosco Junction up to Borivali Jetty Road will be closed.

Railway Overbridge (ROB) Restrictions

  • Capacity Limit: Only 100 people allowed to cross at a time on ROBs, including those at Ghatkopar, Currey Road, Byculla, Marine Lines, and Dadar Tilak.
  • Prohibited Activities: Processions, dancing, and the use of loudspeakers are banned on these bridges for safety reasons.

Additional Measures

  • Police Deployment: Over 24,000 police personnel, including senior officers, will be deployed to ensure safety and manage traffic.
  • Drone Surveillance: To monitor key immersion sites such as Girgaon Chowpatty, Dadar, Bandra, Juhu, Versova, Powai Lake, and Madh Island.
  • Emergency Services: A ‘green corridor’ will be established for essential and emergency services.
  • Railway Coordination: Local trains will operate throughout the night, with additional coordination between the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Motorists have been advised to use public transport, such as local trains and BEST buses, to avoid traffic congestion. The advisory aims to ensure a safe and smooth Ganesh Visarjan for all participants and commuters.
