Nirmala Sitharaman mourns Jethmalani's death,calls him a 'legal eagle'

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister of India mourned the loss of former Union Minister and the senior advocate of Supreme Court of India, Ram Jethmalani.

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, took to Twitter and mourned the loss of the former Union Minister and Senior Advocate of Supreme Court of India, Ram Jethmalani. In her statement, she has called him a 'legal eagle'.

Jethmalani's demise

The prominent lawyer and politician passed away on Sunday at the age of 95. He breathed his last at 07:45 in the morning at his residence in New Delhi. According to his son Mahesh Jethmalani, he was unwell since the last few months. It was also informed that Ram Jethmalani's last rites will be performed on Sunday evening at the Lodhi Road crematorium.

About Ram Jethmalani

Ram Jethmalani was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of Parliament in the 6th and 7th Lok Sabha. He served as the Union Minister of Law and Urban Development under Atal Bihari-Vajpayee government. He had a prominent legal career where he was associated with several high profile cases including KM Nanavati vs State of Maharashtra. Further, he was also elected as the president of Supreme Court Bar association. Jethmalani was known as the 'maverick lawyer'. He has written several books on law and has two biographies written after him.

Several prominent leaders have expressed their condolences and mourned the death of the former Union Minister, Ram Jethmalani. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourning Jethmalani's death called him an exceptional lawyer and an iconic public figure. President Ram Nath Kovind called him a distinguished jurist and a person of great erudition and intellect.
