NITI Aayog Meeting: PM Modi discusses extensive strategies for poverty alleviation, creating jobs, eliminating corruption, combating pollution and more

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the fifth meeting of governing council of NITI Aayog. He raised different issues and put forward various solutions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the fifth meeting of NITI Aayog's governing council on Saturday.

The meeting addressed broad range of issues like drought, farmer distress and rain-water harvesting. Apart from these issues, the Prime Minister also mentioned that the export sector is a vital area for boosting income and employment. He said that states ought to focus more on export promotion. Here's what he said:

The PM even added that the newly created Jal Shakthi Ministry makes use of an integrated approach for tackling the water crisis. Modi further mentioned NITI Aayog's contribution to 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas aur Sabka Vishwas' motto of the government, by stating that he hopes to make India a 5 trillion economy by 2024, provided that all states cooperate and put in maximum efforts.

A strategic move to double the farmers income was also put forward by the Prime Minister who emphasized a major focus on fisheries, animal husbandry, horticulture, fruits and vegetables. In addition, timely benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and other schemes should reach the beneficiaries, he added:

The NITI Aayog's twitter handle conveyed Prime Minister's comments on building a systematic setup which will be helpful to achieve the NITI Aayog's goals. Here's what it said:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the NITI Aayog governing council's meeting for the first time after taking office for the second term. The Governing Council includes ministers of Finance, Home, Defence, Agriculture, Commerce and Rural Development, besides state chief ministers and Niti Aayog vice chairman, CEO and members. However, other leaders who were not at the meeting include West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Andhra Pradesh's new Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. In addition, the meeting was also attended by lieutenant governors of union territories, several union ministers and senior government officials.
