Srinagar: National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah is set to reclaim the Chief Minister’s office in Jammu and Kashmir following his party's impressive performance in the Assembly elections, the first since the abrogation of Article 370. The NC, in alliance with the Congress , won a total of 48 seats.
Omar Abdullah’s earlier social media post from 2014 went viral after the results were announced. The post, which read, "Keep calm cause I'll be back," reflects his confident anticipation of a return to power, following his defeat in the previous Assembly polls.
Win-win for National Conference
The National Conference contested 51 seats and won 42, while Congress secured 6 out of the 32 seats it contested. Omar Abdullah triumphed in both the Budgam and Ganderbal constituencies, solidifying his leadership role.
According to NC chief Farooq Abdullah, the alliance will formally stake its claim to govern with Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister. He emphasized that the election results demonstrate a rejection of the central government's decision to abrogate Article 370, stating, “The people have given their mandate. They have proven that they don’t accept the decision that was taken on August 5.”
