Pakistani drone drops 10 kilos of drugs worth over Rs 50 crore, BSF recovers consignment

Border Security Forces on Friday foiled a major narcotic smuggling bid from the Pakistan side using a drone and recovered over 10 kilos of narcotics, suspected to be heroin. BSF has recovered over 25 kilograms of heroin in Rajasthan dropped via Pakistani drones in five different incidents in 2023, the international market worth of narcotics recovered is more than Rs 75 crore.

A BSF spokesperson said that on the intervening night of August 3 and 4, BSF troops deployed in Sri Ganganagar responded swiftly to the sound of a buzzing drone that had breached the International Border and entered Indian territory in the general area of Srikaranpur. In the ensuing search operation, the troops recovered four packets of narcotics, collectively weighing approximately 10.85 kilograms.

The narcotics has been handed over to concerned agencies for further investigation in the case.

Sources informed Republic that attempt was to drop the consignment close to the population so that handlers can pick it up and deliver it for further distribution. “The international market worth of this consignment is more than 50 crore rupees and it is aimed to destabilise the region and push youth into drugs,” a source said.

On June 24, BSF recovered 2 kilograms of heroin dropped via a Pakistani drone in Rawla area of the International Border. Two kilograms of heroin were recovered on June 21 in Gharsana area of International Border in Bikaner by BSF Rajasthan.
