Piyush Goyal applauds railway crew for saving a herd of 25 elephants

Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal has applauded the alertness and prompt action of railway crew in saving a herd of 25 elephants who were crossing the rail track, by stopping the train near Dekargaon Station in Assam. Goyal took to Twitter to share the video on Thursday which has garnered over 6,500 likes and more than 900 retweets.

Many users have hailed the commendable act of the railway crew. While one user commented, "Great work done by the railway officers and members. This is India sir, where everyone loves each other, either it's human or animal (sic)", another wrote, "Great that life of elephants saved. Such railway crew officers must be outright appreciated and promoted with proper rewards (sic)". One user even suggested building an elephant pass over the trains. 

 

Indian Railways is casualty-free since April 1

Last week, Piyush Goyal said no casualties have been reported in railway-related accidents since April 1 this year. Piyush Goyal, who was in Sweden, also ruled out the possibility of privatisation of the Indian railways and said that it will continue to remain under the government. Additionally, he also asserted that the Centre is planning to install WiFi services inside the trains in the next four to four-and-a-half years.

Piyush Goyal on railway-related accidents 

Speaking about the railway-related accidents the Union Minister said, “In the current year, from April 1, 2019, till today, we have had zero fatality in the Indian Railways. I have ruled out privatisation of Indian Railways. It will continue to be an Indian government entity. It serves the people of India. But I do believe in large investments in railways”.
