Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameshwaram to offer prayers on the occasion of Ram Navami on April 6th. During his visit, he will also inaugurate the newly constructed Pamban Bridge. Spanning 2.10 kilometers, the bridge will improve rail connectivity between Mandapam on the mainland and Rameswaram on Pamban Island. While the inauguration takes place this year, the bridge is set to become operational by April 2025.
The Rameshwaram Temple, also known as Ramanathaswamy Temple, is one of the most revered Hindu temples in India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is located on Rameshwaram Island in Tamil Nadu and holds immense spiritual, architectural, and historical significance.

Rameshwaram Temple is home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas—the most sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Rama himself worshipped Shiva here to absolve his sins after defeating Ravana.

2. The Longest Temple Corridor in the World
The temple features the world’s longest corridor among all Hindu temples. The pillared corridor stretches over 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) with 1,212 intricately carved pillars, creating a mesmerizing sight.

3. 22 Sacred Wells for Ritual Bathing
The temple has 22 holy wells, each with water of different tastes and medicinal properties. Devotees believe that taking a dip in these wells before offering prayers purifies them of sins and diseases.
4. A Connection to the Ramayana
According to legend, Lord Rama built a bridge (Ram Setu) from Rameshwaram to Sri Lanka with the help of Hanuman and the Vanara Sena (monkey army). The remnants of this mythical bridge, also called Adam’s Bridge, are still visible in satellite images.
5. A Unique Shiva and Vishnu Connection
Rameshwaram Temple is one of the rare temples where Shaivism (worship of Shiva) and Vaishnavism (worship of Vishnu) coexist. It is considered sacred by both devotees of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, making it a unifying place for different sects of Hinduism.
