PM Modi Podcast: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a conversation on Lex Fridman’s podcast, spoke about India’s persistent efforts to establish peace with Pakistan efforts that, he said, were repeatedly met with hostility and betrayal.

Reflecting on his 2014 swearing-in ceremony, PM Modi recalled inviting then-Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, hoping for a fresh start in India-Pakistan relations.

“It was a gesture of goodwill, a chance to turn over a new leaf. Yet, every noble attempt at fostering peace was met with hostility and betrayal. We sincerely hope wisdom prevails and they choose the path of peace,” he said.

PM Modi noted that while Pakistan’s leadership has resisted diplomatic overtures, the people of Pakistan likely long for peace, exhausted by years of conflict and terrorism.

Discussing his broader diplomatic vision, PM Modi shed light on how his invitation to all SAARC leaders in 2014 was a defining moment. “Many questioned my approach, but this move sent a strong global message about India’s commitment to peace,” he said.

However, he admitted that despite his best efforts, the expected results never materialized.

Praise for Donald Trump

When asked about former US President Donald Trump, PM Modi praised his unwavering dedication to America. He recalled Trump’s resilience following last year’s assassination attempt, drawing parallels to their strong personal bond. “Even after being shot, he remained committed to his nation. That kind of determination is something I deeply respect,” PM Modi said.

On the 2002 Gujarat Riots and the Godhra Tragedy

Addressing the 2002 Gujarat riots, PM Modi dismissed the “fake narrative” that had been spread over the years. He pointed out that before 2002, Gujarat had witnessed over 250 riots, making communal violence a recurring issue. However, he emphasized that since 2002, not a single such riot has taken place in the state.

He also reflected on the attempts to tarnish his image after the riots but stressed that justice ultimately prevailed. “My government has never engaged in vote-bank politics. We follow the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” he asserted.

PM Modi on the RSS and Its Impact

PM Modi also spoke about his deep connection with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), calling it his Saubhagya (privilege) to be part of an organization that instills values of selfless service. He praised the RSS for its large-scale efforts in education and healthcare across India and highlighted the contrast between leftist labor unions and the RSS-affiliated labor union. “Leftist unions say ‘Workers of the world, unite,’ but the RSS labor union says ‘Workers, unite the world,’” he noted, emphasizing the organization’s unique approach to unity and service.

A Rare Podcast Appearance

This conversation with Lex Fridman marks PM Modi’s second podcast appearance, following his discussion with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath last month.
