'Very Excited': Indian Community in New York Gears Up to Welcome PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi will engage with the Indian diaspora in New York at 9.30pm (IST) on September 22.

New York: The stage is all set for Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's grand diaspora event at Long Island in New York where hundreds of community members are awaiting his arrival, on September 22.

Prime Minister Modi who is on a three-day visit to the United States, arrived at the Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday where he received a rousing welcome by the Indian diaspora as they gathered in huge numbers. 

Diaspora Event at 9.30pm (IST)

From Philadelphia, PM Modi departed for New York where a large gathering of the Indian community has been eagerly anticipating his arrival.

The PM will engage at a diaspora event at 9.30pm (IST) on September 22. The theme of 'Modi and US' event is “Modi & US: Progress Together.”

Taking to X, the PM wrote, “The Indian community has distinguished itself in the USA, making a positive impact across diverse sectors. It’s always a delight to interact with them. At around 9:30 PM India time on Sunday, 22nd September, I will address the @ModiandUS programme in New York City. Let’s celebrate the bonds that connect our nations!(sic).”

'Excited to Meet & Greet Him Personally': Indian Diaspora

"We are here to welcome our PM Narendra Modi . We are very excited to meet & greet him personally...," said a diaspora member to news agency ANI, in New York.

Members of the Indian diaspora also gathered at Hotel Lotte Palace in New York, eagerly awaiting the arrival of PM Narendra Modi .

"Sare Jahan se Achha', 'Vande Mataram' chants echoed the air as Indians displayed their patriotic fervour while waiting for PM Modi.

As many as 13,500 people are expected to witness the grand diaspora event at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum New York’s Long Island. Preparations are underway for PM Modi's grand welcome.

"I am eagerly looking forward to engaging with the Indian diaspora and important American business leaders, who are the key stakeholders and provide vibrancy to the unique partnership between the largest and the oldest democracies of the world," a press release from PM Office read.

PM Modi Attends Quad Summit

PM Modi also held separate bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden and other world leaders on the margins of the Quad Leaders' Summit. He also met his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida and Australian Anthony Albanese in Wilmington on the sidelines of the summit, on September 21 and exchanged views to deepen bilateral cooperation further for mutual benefits and the 'peace, stability, and prosperity' of the Indo-Pacific region.

This was a farewell summit for the Japanese prime minister as he nears the end of his term in office on October 1. This was Biden's farewell summit as his term as the US President will end on January 20, 2025.

The annual Quad Summit hosted by President Biden in his hometown Wilmington, rolled out a series of new initiatives to boost cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and explore ways to find peaceful solutions to the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. The four-member Quad, or the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, advocates upholding a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
