BSP, SP announce seat-sharing in Uttar Pradesh for Lok Sabha 2019 polls. Details here

The Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party along with Rashtriya Lok Dal have declared the seat-sharing with details of exact constituencies in which they will fight the polls.

The coalition which has been mum on seat-sharing declared it on Thursday has now come out with seats to contest the election on. 

Deciding the 78 seats in Uttar Pradesh amongst themselves, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav have agreed that SP will contest on 37 seats while BSP will fight on 38 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019, while the RLD will contest on three seats. The remaining two seats have been left for Congress.

The SP will fight in the Kairana seat and seats in urban areas. The RLD will fight from Mathura, Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar. The alliance with RLD will be officially be announced by the parties.

The Congress was dumped by the SP and BSP after, Yadav claimed that his party person was not made a cabinet member in Madhya Pradesh where his party is in a coalition with the INC.

The coalition has been panned by many, especially those on the ground on the issue of unity and transfer of votes. The vote bank of BSP could be transferred to other parties. 

BSP president Mayawati earlier in February had claimed that the BSP-SP alliance has left the BJP's top leadership 'sleepless' and 'afraid', due to which the party curses the coalition in all its meetings. Mayawati's counter came hours after BJP president Amit Shah attacked the alliance at a meeting of booth-level workers in Aligarh.

"The BSP-SP alliance has not only made the BJP's top leadership sleepless but also afraid and they are out to curse it in all the big and small programmes," the BSP chief said in a party release.
