Centre Revises National Education Policy Draft 2019 After Outrage Over 'Hindi Imposition', Revision States 'students Free To Choose Any Language They Want'

Recently, the Centre had gained major backlash for its draft National Education Policy 2019 (NEP 2019)  which specified a three-language system wherein non-Hindi speaking States in India would include the regional language, English and Hindi, while the parts where Hindi is spoken would have English and one of the modern Indian language in addition to Hindi.

Many Opposition parties (mainly from the South) and famous celebrities, educators claimed it was a 'Hindi imposition' and that it will not be tolerated. DMK even threatened consequences if teh policy was implemented.

Following this development, the Centre released a new, revised policy with no mention of Hindi as a compulsory language in the three-language formula and stating that 'students free to choose any language they want'.
