So far, the ruling BJP has declared the names of 78 candidates for the forthcoming state Assembly polls. The list features three union ministers- Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of State (MoS) for Food Processing Industries Prahlad Singh Patel, and MoS for Rural Development and Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste.

While Tomar will contest from the Dimni seat, Patel and Kulaste have been fielded from Narsingpur and Niwas, respectively.

The tenure of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on January 6, 2024.

The previous assembly elections were conducted in November 2018, resulting in the Indian National Congress forming the state government with Kamal Nath as Chief Minister. However, in March 2020, the state government crumbled as 22 Congress MLAs resigned and joined the opposition BJP.

Subsequently, the BJP assumed power, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as Chief Minister. It's worth noting that most of the defected MLAs were re-elected under the BJP symbol in the by-election held for 28 assembly constituencies in November 2020.
