Fuel Price Hike: As Fuel prices hit a new record high, P. Chidambaram escalates attack on Modi government

Fuel prices on Saturday hit a new record high crossing the previous peak reached on May 29.

A day after Petrol and diesel prices hit a record new high in four metros across the country on Friday, Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram has mounted a scathing attack on Modi- Government. Earlier, he expressed happiness over the growing rate of GDP, however, on Saturday he took to Twitter and wrote that GDP is a "statistic" and fuel price hike is "a cruel blow". 

Fuel prices on Saturday hit a new record high crossing the previous peak reached on May 29. Here is a state wise price for Petrol and Diesel:

DELHI:

  • Petrol- Rs. 78.52 per litre
  • Diesel- Rs. 70.21 per litre

MUMBAI:

  • Petrol- Rs. 85.93 per litre
  • Diesel- Rs. 74.54 per litre

KOLKATA:

  • Petrol-  Rs. 81.44 per litre
  • Diesel- 73.06 per litre

CHENNAI:

  • Petrol-  Rs. 81.44 per litre
  • Diesel- Rs. 74.18 per litre

Earlier on Friday, The Central Statistical Office (CSO) estimated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter of the financial year 2018-19 i.e., from April to June, at 8.2 percent. The growth cements India’s position as the fastest growing economy by managing a strong show for the current fiscal with core performance and a healthy base. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely took to Twitter and wrote:

However, Congress leader P Chidambaram presented his counter. While expressing his happiness over the rate of growth, he also presented a table of the last 8 quarters:
