BJP Rajya Sabha MP Bhagwat Karad on Sunday wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asking him to waive fixed demand charges included in electricity bills for industrial and commercial users as these establishments are closed due to the lockdown for the novel coronavirus outbreak.

He said these companies will have to pay staff salaries and will face other losses due to the shutdown, so the state government must provide relief by waiving off fixed demand charges. He told PTI such a decision has already been taken by BJP-ruled Gujarat.
