Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan on December 15 wrote a message to his party workers and supporters issuing clarity on reports of his Party’s alliances. Terming the reports as 'fake news', Haasan took to Twitter to say that, ‘if need be, we shall stand alone’.

Haasan had earlier also ruled out any alliance with either the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Haasan had met Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Delhi when he visited the national capital to register his political party - Makkal Needhi Maiam, giving rise to speculation that he would soon form an alliance with Congress in Tamil Nadu. Haasan, however, noted his visit was not political in nature.

Meanwhile, tomorrow, a statue of former DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi will be unveiled in Chennai and a number of national-level leaders of various political parties are expected to attend the function to unveil the life-size statue on December 16.

DMK has invited both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for the event since both the leaders were close to M Karunanidhi.
