Ahead of the Assembly polls, which will be held in 2019, Republic TV, in association with CVoter, has come with the National Approval Ratings to bring forward the mood of the nation in the present time. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is presently in power in the centre, as well as 21 states, either alone or through a coalition of NDA.

One of the biggest states to look for during the assembly elections will be Gujarat, the home of PM Narendra Modi.

Considered as the fortress of BJP, they displayed their power in the state by winning all the 26 seats in 2014. Congress were left empty-handed in the previous elections, though they did have a vote share of 33.8%.

In 2018, there will be the minutest of difference, though BJP's dominance will continue. Rather than a clean-sweep, they will win 24 seats in the state this time, and their vote share will also come down to 54.4%. Congress will open their account and win two seats, but its the vote share where they will prosper. A 5.1% increase will see them winning 38.9% vote share. The Others, who had 7.1% back in 2014, will get 6.7% this time around.

  • The BJP is set to  sweep Gujarat with 24 out of 26 seats

  • The Congress is set to pluck 2 seats out of the BJPs 2014 every seat win in Gujarat, this time around.

  • In terms of vote share, the BJP is set to decline by 4.7% but still settle at a remarkable 54.4% of the vote. The INC is set to gain 5% and settle its vote share at 38.9%.

  • But now, let us just put this in perspective: a jaw dropping statistic is that should these projections be accurate it would mean that ever since 1989 the BJP has sweeping gujarat at the national level out of these 29 years the BJP has been in power at the state level for 23 years and despite this, anti-incumbency hasn’t held the BJP back.

(The results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the state assembly elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.)
