Gurugram: A portion of Gurugram-Sohna flyover caved in again on Tuesday within several months of being repaired, highlighting the civic apathy.
A pothole approximately eight-metre deep and two-feet wide formed when a portion the four-lane elevated flyover caved in, trapping the wheel of a school bus with students onboard.
The students had a close shave as another bus was used to pull it from behind, after which the school bus could resume its journey. The cavity was formed on the road towards Sohna, in front of SD Adarsh Vidyalaya, an official said.
Soon after the cave-in incident, a team from the road construction company and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area around the pothole, disrupting vehicular traffic.
About 30 per cent of the road lane had been closed to traffic on Tuesday, according to senior GMDA officer said, adding that the repair work would commence soon.
Another official said the road caved in due to construction work for a sewer line. The maintenance company will fix the damaged road, he added. It is to be noted that, in December last year, a similar incident took place on this four-lane elevated road towards Sohna.
A pit about 5-feet deep and 2-feet wide formed when the road caved in at the same location. It took approximately three months to repair the damage, and now the road has caved in again at the same spot.
Earlier, in August 2020, a stretch of the road collapsed during the construction of this flyover, causing work to be suspended temporarily.
The construction work of the flyover, which commenced in 2019, was completed in two phases in 2021.The 21-km-long project was opened to the public in 2021. The project cost of the flyover is estimated to be around Rs 1,944 crore.
