‘Protests Won’t End Without Consulting Doctors’: Delegation After Meeting with CM Mamata Banerjee
A delegation that met Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that they have informed authorities that protests won't end without consulting protesting doctors.
Kolkata: After concluding a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee , a junior doctor who was part of a delegation said that it has been decided that protests won’t end without taking inputs from the doctors who have been protesting for over a month demanding justice for the woman doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical college in Kolkata.
"We have raised our demands... there are some agreements and some disagreements. We have told the authorities that we will not take any decisions regarding withdrawing the protest and 'cease work' without consulting with our protesting doctors," said a junior doctor from the delegation.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that IPS officer Vineet Goyal will no longer hold the position of Kolkata Police Commissioner effective September 18.
Kolkata Police Commissioner To Be Removed
“New commissioner of Kolkata Police will be appointed on Tuesday,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said.
Mamata also informed that a West Bengal Chief Secretary-led panel will look into demands of agitating junior doctors.
West Bengal CM Mamata appealed to protesting doctors to resume their work.
“Have urged agitating docs to withdraw cease work as three of their five demands have been accepted,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said.
No punitive action will be taken against protesting doctors
CM Mamata Banerjee also said, “No punitive action will be taken against protesting doctors”.
Doctors have been protesting in response to the horrific rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The victim's body was found in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9.
