Mother of Pune Teen Arrested

It was alleged that the blood sample of the Pune accident accused teen was swapped with that of his mother. The mother of the accused teen was arrested by the Pune Police on Saturday after it was confirmed that her son's blood sample was replaced with that of her, said Amitesh Kumar. The Pune CP said the accident investigation has revealed that the juvenile's blood samples were replaced with those of his mother.

The Crime Branch had earlier arrested Dr Ajay Taware, head of the forensic medicine department of Sassoon General Hospital, its chief medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and hospital staffer Atul Ghatkamble for their alleged involvement in the blood sample swap episode. The juvenile's father and mother conspired with Taware, Halnor and Ghatkamble to change the blood samples and it has been revealed that financial transactions took place between the accused for this, said the Pune Police.

Blood Sample Tampering

Shivani Agarwal was traced after she returned to the city from Mumbai. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report showed no traces of alcohol in the first blood sample, which raised suspicions. Later, a second blood test was conducted at a different hospital and DNA tests confirmed the samples were not of the same person.

Soon the focus shifted to the medical staff who were accused of throwing away minor accused’s samples in a dustbin. Subsequently, two doctors (Dr Halnor and Dr Ajay Tawade) and one ward boy of Sassoon Hospital were taken in police custody in connection with tampering with the minor's blood samples. After the arrest of doctors, police launched a search for Shivani who was absconding.
