Chandigarh: A local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab was allegedly shot during a heated argument with a leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal in Fazilka district on Sunday.
AAP leader Mandeep Singh Brar was first taken to a government hospital in Jalalabad and later transferred to a district medical center in Ludhiana due to his critical condition, according to reports.
Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, AAP MLA from Jalalabad, accused Akali leader Vardev Singh Mann of firing the shot.
The incident occurred outside the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer.
Fazilka's senior police officer, Varinder Singh Brar, said that, “Vardev Singh Noni Mann, son of former MP Zora Singh Mann, had come to the BDPO office to discuss clearing a file related to a school. When the BDPO refused, the Akali leaders became upset and left the office. Outside, an altercation ensued between the Akali and AAP leaders, during which the shot was allegedly fired by Vardev Singh.”
