Weather Update: Wet Weekend in Delhi, Mumbai; Orange Alert in 5 States

According to the IMD, Delhi and NCR regions will received light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms until August 21.

New Delhi: Parts of the country will continue to receive rainfall on August 17, according to the India Meteorological Department. The weather agency has issued an Orange alert in West Bengal, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha for today

In its latest bulletin IMD said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥ 12 cm) is very likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and Kerala & Mahe.” Additionally, heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, and Assam.

Delhi:

According to the IMD,  Delhi and NCR regions will received light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms until August 21. The weather agency issued a yellow alert in the national capital from August 18 to 20. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 33.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to stay around 26.5 degrees Celsius.

A Yellow alert indicates severely bad weather spanning across several days. It also suggests that the weather could change for the worse, causing disruption in day-to-day activities.

Mumbai:

Mumbai is likely to experience light to very light rainfall on Saturday, according to the Regional Meteoroligical Centre in Mumbai. The weather condition is likely to remain same in the next three-four days.

Himachal Pradesh:

As rain continued to batter parts of Himachal Pradesh on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Shimla issued a 'yellow' alert  in 10 districts until August 20. Heavy rainfall also led to closure of 58 roads in the state. The wet spell in the state is likely to continue till August 22, the local Met office said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its weather bulletin issued on Friday evening, has predicted isolated heavy rainfall in the hill state till August 20.

Kerala:

An orange alert is in place for two Kerala districts – Wayanad and Kozhikode – for today while a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining 12 Kerala districts. A cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea and South Kerala coast is being attributed to bringing showers to the state receive heavy rainfall between August till 19. The IMD has warned people against venturing into the sea for fishing activities in the Kerala-Lakshadweep-Karnataka coastal region till August 19, citing chances of strong winds and bad weather conditions.

West Bengal:

A low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal is set to bring showers to most parts of Bengal till Tuesday. A local weather office has issued heavy rain alerts in parts of south Bengal, including the neighbouring North and South 24 Parganas. Kolkata is likely to experience light to moderate rain during this period.

Odisha

An orange is in place for Odisha. There is a very high probability of very heavy rainfall in the state on August 17.
